JOB SUMMARY
LMYF is looking for a Senior programme officer who will be responsible for program development, implementing and managing projects in the four strategic pillars; as well as in formulation, implementation, monitoring, documentation of information in a professional and effective manner.
Under the direct supervision of the CEO, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Continuously scanning the environment for emerging trends and opportunities within the TVET Sub- Sector;
  • Provide support to efforts toward creating spaces and learning circles for youth interaction and mentorship through exchange visits, networking and workshops;
  • Develop and implement an outreach and advocacy engagement strategy to respond to issues affecting Kenyan youth;
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of LMYF’s projects and programs in line with the vision;
  • Participate in research and analysis on emerging issues and make recommendations in relation to the youth concerns;
  • Spearhead the development of concepts and proposals for resource mobilisation to fund the foundations programs;
  • Lead in preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports;
  • Representing LMYF in relevant meetings, working groups and coordination forums of direct relevance to youth engagements;
  • Supervise and give assignments to the Junior Programme officer.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION;

  • Candidates must hold a minimum of an Undergraduate Degree in Community Development, Sociology, Law, Political Science, International Relations or related field to the programme;
  • Post graduate Qualifications in a related field is an added advantage;
  • Demonstrate technical experience in the sectors of ICT
  • Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to youth programs and current youth issue
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritise according to staff needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Deep interest in socio-economic development of youth in Kenya and beyond;
  • Candidates must be between 18-35 years of age
  • Soft skills in emotional intelligence, empathy, problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Be Pro-Agile working environment

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • The candidate must be able to demonstrate1. Having worked in the development space for a minimum of two years; tackling Youth issues in various programs; TVET Sub-Sector programs and Education programs
  • Proficiency in IT for purposes of creating a data base and conducting quality R & D and M & E.
  • Capability in Influencing policy decisions and interventions by LMYF to key stakeholders
  • Ability to Communicate the various programs to key stakeholders and articulate various issues to gain common ground
  • Proficiency in Research and development tools for data driven decision making

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • A competitive remuneration will be provided commensurate to the qualifications of the successful candidate.
  • The Senior Programme Officer will be based in Nairobi with regular duty travels to various regions and counties of operations.
  • There will be a Performance contract signed that is subject to appraisals, semi-annually.
  • A three (3) months’ notice or equivalent pay is a condition of breaking the performance contract.

LMYF’s founder is Lynette Mwende, a young Kenyan lady who is passionate and dedicated about youth empowerment, specifically through public policy advocacy. She has been influencing education reforms through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives that have impacted more than seven hundred youth countrywide.
